Outdoor Adventures

I came up with a list of ideas with fun things you can do this summer.  I love making plans to do something fun at least once a month during these upcoming summer months but why not have a few ideas in your back pocket that you can spontaneously do last minute?

  • Under Canvas glamping resorts: I recently found out about an upscale glamping company called Under Canvas.  They have locations throughout the most beautiful and scenic spots in the US.  They also offer adventures that you can sign up for at each location.  Each adventure is based on the location, but some include:  a Raft dinner trip, private UTV tours, kayaking, a stargazing tour, ziplining, e-bike tours, Oyster Aquaculture tours and more.  They have a long list on their website.  Some of the destinations are the Acadia National Park, Bryce Canyon, the Great Smoky mountains, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and others.  I already have a trip planned to stay with friends at their home in Prout’s Neck, Maine but I plan on driving up three hours to Acadia national park to see the resort for myself!
  • Check out your local Orvis and REI to see what events they offer. Orvis has a free Flyfishing 101 course that you can do in person or online.   REI has a bulletin board that showcases local outdoor events.   I just found a list of family campouts, bike races, and a paddle board/kayak fest nearby.  You can also find running races and group meetup/training schedules at running shoe shops like Fleet Feet.  It’s a great way to meet people and connect to others in your community.  We all need this especially after the isolation we felt during the pandemic.
  • What events are happening in your neighborhood? Block some time off on your calendar for outdoor movie nights, live music, and outdoor workouts.  In my community we have a schedule of live music on Friday nights and on Sunday mornings in the park.  We also have free yoga every Thursday evening and a farmer’s market on Wednesdays. Fresh Scent Aluminum Free Deodorant - Morton Essentials
  • Are there any places you’ve been dying to see but have been putting off? I’ve been trying to plan a trip to see the Matterhorn and Montblanc.  I’ve been craving an Italian getaway where I can sip on Lemoncello and walk the beaches on the Amalfi Coast.  I’ve planned all my trips in the US already and ironically my European plans may in fact be last minute.  I will keep you updated on this blog.

Here is my plan for now:

June- My visit to the South:  Visit friends in Dallas and Nashville (clumped together) and have a layover for two nights in Charleston.

July- My visit to the Northeast:  One weekend in Maine and another weekend in Boston to go boating at Manchester by the Sea with a quick one-day trip to Nantucket.

August- Back to the Northeast: My lawyer invites all his clients every year on vacation in North Conway, New Hampshire.  I plan on visiting my brother in Connecticut and renting a car and driving up there.  Then I will head over to Burlington, Vermont to visit my alma mater and reconnect with some old friends.  Amtrak offers a train from Burlington down to New York City, so I plan on taking that and staying at my sister’s apartment for a few days to take in the museums, Broadway shows and amazing food.

Please share in the comments what you are doing this summer.
